Becoming a Google AdSense publisher is one of the easiest ways to profit from advertising on your website.

You just sign up for the program (it's free). Once Google approves your website, other companies' text ads are displayed on your site. When one of your visitors clicks on one, you earn a small referral fee.

As easy as it is to get started, it's important to know how to make money online with Google AdSense... without affecting your main product sales.

This is especially true if you sell products and services on your website, because you risk sending your visitors away from your site before they have a chance to buy your product... or worse, you might send them right into the arms of your competitors!

Here's how to make money online with Google AdSense without affecting your sales:

• Ban competitors' URLs. Google allows you to block up to 200 of your competitors' URLs. As long as you have a limited number of competitors, you'll be able to make sure you don't send your visitors straight into their arms!
  
  
• Avoid placing ads on your sales pages. One of the biggest drawbacks with AdSense ads is that you can't make the ad URL open in a new window. That means that, once someone clicks on your ad, they're immediately directed off your website.
  
  So make sure you don't allow ads on any pages that are critical to your sales process: your product information pages, order forms, and sales letters. The last thing you want to do is send potential customers away before they get a chance to order your products!
  
  
• Review your AdSense stats and site stats regularly. Monitor your statistics to make sure that AdSense isn't negatively affecting your sales. Check your traffic stats to see if the ads are affecting how long people stay on your pages, and at what point they leave your site.

No matter what kind of site you have, you'll need to do some testing so you can assess whether the income you receive from AdSense is worth the space given to it. Try testing it against other methods of advertising, like carefully selected affiliate ads -- then stick with the biggest profit generator!
